For Mothering Sunday my youngest daughter gave me a lovely journal in which she suggested that I write special happenings or even thought that pop into my head. I have been doing this and thought I might share one of those thoughts with you.
From the end of June, throughout July and August, Brian and I have had friends or family staying with us and
especially our grandchildren. The eldest two, aged 15 and 12 are very easy to entertain; the youngest two, aged 5 and 2
are rather more of a challenge!! We have headed off to Woolacombe Sands on more than one occasion being fortunate enough
to hire a beach hut, which was good fun and very civilised. However, in early August no beach huts were available and on
one particularly windy day the two little ones were struggling to keep warm, so I decided that I would buy them a beach
tent. Trying to read the instructions in high winds was fun in itself, however my daughter Esther and myself were
determined not to be beaten and overcame the taunts of our men-folk, plus some strong winds, when we very proudly
managed to make a good job of putting up this tent. It was great sitting inside and we had a few giggles watching other
folk struggling with their tents and we became expert helpers as well!!
However, back to the point of my story. We were really snug and warm inside our tent. We ate our picnic without mouthfuls of sand, dried off the children after a paddle in the sea and we were fully protected from the weather. It was really surprising how much shelter, warmth and protection this little tent gave us. Needless to say, the children loved the adventure and made sure I packed the tent away safely, ready for the next time!!
I am reminded of some verses from Psalm 61, which says:
'For you have been my refuge, a strong tower against the foe.
I long to dwell in your tent for ever and take refuge in the shelter of your wings'.
What a wonderful feeling to be in the shelter of God's love. No matter what life brings in the way of storms of anxiety or worries, isn't it amazing to know we are always in the shelter of His Wings. It makes me feel so safe and secure to read these verses. I hope they have the same effect on you all. God bless.
