From the Secretary

Where is God when bad things happen?  A question that is frequently asked not only by non Christians but often you hear those who have a strong faith ask that same question when major tragedies happen.  A disaster such as a tsunamis, or a devastating earthquake killing thousands of people is hard to come to terms with if we believe God to be loving and caring .A personal tragedy of a loved one dying of cancer or being killed in an accident or a child being born severely disabled can challenge our faith and we ask the question why has God allowed this to happen, why did God not prevent this ,why has God not healed the person I love.
There are no simple answers to these questions but all too often we are so quick to point the finger of blame in Gods direction for personal and global misfortunes .  God is blamed and anger directed at Him because if we are perfectly honest with ourselves we are unable to find anyone or anything else to blame and give vent to our sorrow, frustration, distress, and feelings for the injustice of what life throws at us.
God created a perfect world, where men and women would have their every need met.  There would have been no disease, no pain, no sorrow,.  God made us in His likeness with the ability to chose for ourselves what we wanted.  and because man had freedom of choice he defied God and allowed sin to come into the world which changed everything.  We have the choice between what we know to be right or choose to do what we know to be wrong and against Gods will.  The consequence of this is what theologians describe as 'the fall' because it resulted in man turning their back on God and going their own way with devastating results for the rest of humanity and future generations to follow.  God did not want anyone to suffer but because of mans own greed, selfishness, immorality, wickedness and focus on worldly things rather than what God intended for us, we are in the mess the world is today.
It would be naive to think that God would prevent all the bad things that we see reported in the media and experience ourselves .It is not that He is unable to do these things but rather that we have rejected Him because of our sinful nature and have to bear the consequences of that.  If God was to prevent a major tragedy happening in our world today it raises so many questions as to why that particular tragedy, will He prevent the next one and the one after, if not why not.
