Thoughts Around WatersmeetAs most of you know, I have reached the grand old age of sixty recently and celebrated this momentous occasion in a wonderful Scottish castle. I still find it hard to believe I am sixty years old as I certainly don't feel any different from when I was in my forties, and where did those sixty years go? So much has happened in my life, some good, some not so good, but it all seems to have gone over so quick. Without sounding too morbid I have realistically only another 20 - 30 years left.
Time is, to me, a very strange phenomenon! When you are a child a year feels a very long time, when you are young, you think you are going to live forever, and as you get older, time seems to slip by like sand running through your fingers.
So much time is wasted in pursuing pointless activities and many people land up regretting that they didn't spend their time more wisely. Everyone and in particular those of us who are Christians have a responsibility to make sure we use time sensibly. That is not to say we don't make time to relax or enjoy ourselves as time spent doing that is very important and it is something God intended us to do. But we need to make sure our distribution of time for our emotional and spiritual needs is properly proportioned.
Our life on this earth, to some degree, is governed by time. How reassuring it is to know God is not restricted to time as we are. God’s concept of time is vastly different from ours. In psalm 90 verse 4 it tells us "A thousand years to you (God) is like one day, they are like yesterday already gone, like a short hour in the night."
To some extent we are all on a journey. The years pass by in our lives, and eventually that journey comes to an end. As believers in Christ, we are promised eternal life with Jesus and God our Father in heaven. This is made possible through the wonderful sacrifice Jesus made for us on the cross because of His love for each one of us.
God Bless
