It was just over 12 months ago that 3 musicians within our Church, got together to try and add a contemporary style of Worship to our Sunday morning service. Alan Porter a very talented Country & Western style Singer/Songwriter guitarist , together with Husband & Wife team Janet & Brian Mogford with a lifetime experience of music making within the Salvation Army, on Vocals, Piano, Guitar, String Bass & Brass.
This then encouraged others to join in when Dave Moore joined on Percussion. 3 young people joined the Band. Adam Ford on Guitar, and Becca & Luke Olpin on Vocal, Piano Accordion & Keyboard.
We also have the occasional assistance from Jo Peacock one of our toddler mums, An amazing Talented Professional Violinist, and Nick Hodges an experienced Rock Guitarist.
This has brought a completely new style to our worship and most weeks we have a worship time at the commencement of our service using the Band. The Group play prior to the commencement of our service bringing a sense of worship as people come in, then usually a uplifting song to start the service followed by a more thoughtful time of prayerful worship, then a special song for the Children & young People before they go out to Junior Church.
On most occasions our regular Pianists Malcolm New or Mary Hawkins then take over, giving their valuable Faithful encouraging service in a traditional style. The Worship group meet each week for rehearsal, learning new songs and arranging well known songs & choruses to enhance our Worship. We have been asked to play at numerous Civic and Town events as well as a regular Monthly outreach to Garson House our local Residential / nursing home.
